I love to WIN! It aint to hard being this CUTE!!

Having nerds for parents especially my mother it has been an interesting life so far. During my short time in this world my parents have entered me into two costume contests. Both of which I won with pretty stiff competition. Na, I have to say that! I won in a land slide. The first contest was at a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book release party. I was only six months old and with a great desire to do something creative my mother dressed me as a Mandrake. Ya I am going to love this picture when I am 16. The grand prize was a gift card that my parents turned around and used on the book. Ya I felt used. It wasn't even something that I could enjoy.

Lucky for them I have a good sense of humor and took it all in stride. They were dressed up too but compared to me no one even noticed. The second contest was much more recent, a costume contest at a college soccer match. You were supposed to dress up as a lumberjack or something like that. This time I was the only one out of the three of us that got dressed up, which I didn't think was very fair. And to top it all off there was this big puppet man there with a giant axe, that kept wanting to get close to me. Ya right! I am not as young as I look. Hello, STRANGER!!! So he didn't make me feel very comfortable. I did my best but in the end I was pretty upset. I started to feel better when the whole crowd of onlookers voted me the best lumberjack of them all but do they really need to be that loud. I mean, I know I am cute but really. What can you expect from a bunch of college students. GOT TO LOVE THEM ANYWAY!

Oh, ya I won two tickets to the Grand Canyon Railway. Probably wont' be able to use them either, what ever they are. So enjoy parents! And stay tooned for the next silly thing they or shall I say my Mother dresses me up as.

Oh, on a side note a week after this event my parents took me down town. I happened to have my last binky with me and some where along the way it fell out of the stroller. So from that point on I have been binkyless. life is so tough. Good thing I still have my milk!

Hair or no Hair that is the Question!

So if you have been an experienced reader on this blog you will know that I did attempt to cut the lil'guy's hair a few months ago with disastrous results. Since that time the Hubby didn't want to get his hair cut. This is not only due to my last attempt but I am certain that it did effect the Hubby's thought process. One day I was putting a ponytail in my hair and the lil'guy wanted to play too. So as a good mother (I know that can be disputed) I obliged him and thus we have the pictures below. Yes he is a boy but could make a rather cute little girl.

Needless to say when the Hubby saw these pictures he wasn't ecstatic but I did marry a man with a sense of humor and he did laugh. I was just trying to prove a point about how long this lil'guy's hair had gotten. He was obviously in need of a hair cute. So not long after this event we took a trip to the valley to see my second sister and her family. My brother in-law was gracious enough to give me a lesson in cutting hair, one of his many talents. (This lesson was on the Hubby FYI) The next day, when the men were away, I looked at my sister and said, " do I dare!" She said' "YES!" So the following pictures will tell quite a story. It had been so long since his last hair cute that Lil'guy had a hard time but with my sister's help I was able to cut his hair.

BEFORE!! Do you think he needed to be cut?

A WARNING: the scenes you are about to view are sensitive in nature and may cause unconscious AWE's and unexpected laughter. View at your own risk.

After: I had tried to trim the top of his hair with scissors but he was so upset that I didn't dare and ended up using the longest attachment, a 7 to finish the top. It ended up a lot shorter than I wanted but he looked a lot better.

night time dreams

So the time has come to move from a baby's crib to a big boy bed. We were going to wait till his second birthday but some friends of ours offered us a free toddler bed. So out goes the crib, hello bed. Lil'guy loves it! These are pictures of his first night in the bed. AHWWW how sweet.

He transitioned very well. He loves that he can get in and out of bed with ease. Now I just need to work with him on staying in bed when it is time for his afternoon nap. We go through an hour routine of silliness but in the end sleep always wins. I am up for suggestions if anyone would like to share mommy tips.

Birthday Bliss

With family trips and having summer birthdays for the Hubby and I we have had a very full summer. The birthdays came and we did a pretty good job celebrating each other's existence. A big THANK YOU to our Mothers who are the real Hero's of birthday's. They are also those that are the most forgotten but we want to let you know that we are so grateful for nine months of growth in your bellies, the hours of labor and recovery. We hope that you truly have recovered by now.

The Hubby's birthday comes first even though I am almost one year older. We celebrated the way he wanted to with a relaxing day off of work. Birthday Waffles in the morning, what better way to start the day. Quickly fallowed by presents. I know many of you won't believe this but he did wait (or should I say HAD to wait) till his birthday DAY to open any gifts. This has been an issue in the past. Playing nerdy games and napes followed throughout the day. We had arranged for a baby sitter for the lil'one so that we could hit a movie but that little guy got sick and so we stayed in and rented a flick. (notice how that rhymed?)

Hubby had to go into work the morning of my birthday unexpectedly but hurried home to delight me with the best present in the history of the world. Yes, he took me hiking, just the two of us. A good friend watched the lil'one so we could have a little freedom. Yahoo! We live in such a beautiful area and this was our first adventure into the mountains. We tried to take some pictures but as you will see they did not turn out as well as we would have hoped. The hike was amazing and I can truly say that it was just what a new member of the 30 plus club needed.

An other good friend took me out to lunch and then watched the lil'guy while the Hubby and I finally made it to a movie. The new Batman movie. It was such a fun birthday and couldn't have been better even if I was turning 29 again. How says you can't have fun after 30. I have discovered it just gets better with age.

MONSOONS?!

So we new that the valley gets monsoons but we had no idea that they would hit us up here. When the first monsoon hit while the Hubby was home for lunch this is what we found when he was headed back to work this is what we found. Yes that would be the playground overflowing and draining on to the only path that leads to the parking lot.
So the Hubby changed out of his Shoes and socks, preparing to take on the building flood. I have never been so glad to live on the second floor. Look how deep it is already and he was only home for thirty minutes. Lovely!

Lil' guy was amazed by the rain and thought it quite funny to see his daddy winding his way through it. Can you say like father like son? (Its a foot thing)

Lil' guy loved playing in the rain and proceeded to get soaked to the bone. Nothing a warm bath couldn't fix. But it definitely was a Kodak moment.

Just look at these stink'en cute footprints.
Yahoo for the beloved rain. Since this flooding started, drains have been installed. lets hope they work.

Reunion is just another word for PARTY!!!

For as long as I can remember my family has gone to a big reunion over the Independence Day Holiday. This has been an event that I have always looked forward to. Whats not to like? Nature, good. Grandparents, good. Cousins, GOOOOOD!! This year I was expecting to have to miss the reunion but thanks to awesome parents and a conveniently placed July birthday lil'guy and I found ourselves in the company of trees, aunts and adventure.
Over the course of four days we all had a lovely time playing cards, laughing and enjoying the scenery. Here is my littlest sister with her beloved, being over come with joy at the beautiful prospect. Not to shabby? Bet you''ll put your name in for the next reunion.
We had a few adventures while camping. A group of us decided to try out the local scene. Bumper boats were the common consensus and hence we waited in line. And waited and waited. Some took the time to get to know their cousins better. Then entertained themselves with their Grandma's sunglasses. Thanks Buckabooe!
When we finally got on the bumper boats, it was a heap of fun. Lil'guy didn't really appreciate getting wet but such is life. He just held on for all he was worth and cracked a smile or two. Afterwards there were water guns at our disposal and we made the best of them. Starting a huge water fight and drenching many, including patrons not of relation. They may not want our gang back there any time soon. Got to love the memories. I am sure they we never forget it. On the last day of the reunion, on our way home, the "BIG C" group stopped off for a bite and to celebrate the birth of the littlest sister. Say Cheese! When we returned to the family homeland we still had time to be together and went on more adventures to entertain the little ones. What could be in there that is intriguing some many children? What indeed.Oh yes, FISH what else could be so captivating. Look Lil'guy there are some big ones. A day at the beach is all that anyone could ask for and so as a last activity the beach is where we all found our selves. Here are the parental ones showing us all how it is done. Lil'guy grasped the concept rather quickly. What better way to enjoy the sand than to share it with a new found friend. Here is Lil'guy trying to put as much sand as possible, on the littlest sister's baby. They will so miss us!Who says you can't lounge in the water. Making the example an art form. Lil'guy getting the hang of this lake thing. Just the two of us watching over the chillen while they play and splash in the cool ripples. Child control is a continues job. Sometimes a vacation isn't really a vacation. Two sister moms calming, protecting, guiding and directing. All in all it was a grand time and we will treasure the memories all our lives. Thanks Mom and Dad for providing this opportunity! Love you!!
